About Us

Carnatic Tamil Trust is a Public Charitable Trust founded on the 13th of December, 2018. The Trust is formed with the primary objective of promoting, propagating, supporting and serving the cause of Carnatic Music in its Unique and Traditional manner especially by Promoting and Propagating Tamil Compositions and Literature in Carnatic Music.

The other objectives of the Trust are:-

• To stimulate and uphold the finer values like spiritual quest, devotion, universal welfare, peace and universal brotherhood amongst
  all men through Carnatic Music, Tamil Literature and Tamil Compositions;

• To provide for and create forums for spreading Carnatic Music and Tamil Literature;

• To promote and conduct Carnatic Music Concerts in Tamil Compositions including contemporary creations;

• To explore the spectrum of Tamil literature spanning from Sangam period to contemporary for the purpose of creating musical
  works across diverse themes.

• To encourage, cause to produce and support the Publication of Audio / Video / albums or books in Tamil Literature and Carnatic
  Music;

• To Institute an endowment award to promote/encourage/support Carnatic musicians and/or composers.

' Aym PoruL '

‘Aym PoruL’ is a set of FIVE original Carnatic music video singles in classical Tamil, featuring FIVE top-class Carnatic musicians, exploring FIVE independent themes that are very closely associated with Padma Vibhushan Smt. D.K. Pattammal. Each of the five video singles will be released on YouTube on dates significant to the themes of the songs. This is the first project for the Trust. This musical project is a humble attempt to express socially relevant and universal themes through traditional Carnatic music as an avenue to:

A) Tap into the versatility and aesthetics of Carnatic music,
B) Expand the horizons of Carnatic Music, and
C) To please the sensibilities of a larger and diverse audience.

About the lyricist and composer

Born in to a family of musicians, Ramnath Bhagavath has always had an unquenched passion for music. His first Guru is his grandmother Gana Bhushan Smt. Meenakshi Ramanathan, an accomplished AIR A-Grade Veena artiste and disciple of Padma Bhushan Sri. K.S NarayanaSwamy (Veenai) and Padma Vibhushan Sri. Semmangudi SrinivasaIyer (Vocal).

His passion for Carnatic Music and Tamil literature brought him back to Chennai from North America, where he earned his Undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics (Canada) and Master’s degree in Operations Research (U.S.A). He also holds a Masters in Actuarial Sciences from UK. Ramnath is an actuary by profession.

While in North America, Ramnath had the opportunity to sing in an Americam short film named ‘Silent Water’. Please click below for the eight-min short film and it's credits. While in California, he was part of a Los-Angeles based Indian band called ‘RiffsNRaagas’ that released an album named ‘Yatra’ in 2012, in which, he has sung two Tamil songs. He has penned the lyrics as well for these two songs. The album is available for download in iTunes. Ramnath has composed and penned lyrics for over 25 songs that include universal themes such as human emotions and nature in addition to devotional.

Ramnath is a recipient of the prestigious scholarship awarded by Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, Ministry of Human Resources, Government of India, as well as the Kent Music Performance Scholarship by the University of Kent, Canterbury UK, for excellence in music performance. He is a recipient of several awards including D.K.PATTAMMAL AWARD that Sri Krishna Gana Sabha conferred on him in Aug.2015.

As a Carnatic vocalist, he is a regular performer during Chennai’s December music festival. He has presented several thematic concerts including ‘Annamacharya’ at the Indian fine arts society, a full-length Tamil concert covering Tamil literature from Sangam classics to Modern day compositions at Thiagarajar College of Engineering (Arul Gnana Sabhai), and compositions of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal in Swathi Sangeethotsavam 2016.
